Nuits Fauves, a new Parisian nightclub located under the Cité de la mode et du design, opens its doors on 24 June. Translated by Henry Hodson.

At long last, the Seine is back within the confines of its banks and gives way to the grand opening of Nuits Fauves, a brand new Paris club on the bank of the river, where Cyril Collard shot scenes from the cult film Les Nuits fauves (Savage Nights), released in 1992.

The club has all it takes to become one of the attractions of the Parisian summer: a 1,500 capacity, a covered area of 700 metres squared and a terrace in the unlikely event that the sun should show its face. As for design, the club takes a leaf out of Berlin’s book. “Raw and minimalist, the dancefloor was imagined by Bald Studio with lights from Superbien. The club’s visual designs were developed by Jean André around a 90s, neo-punk aesthetic,” Nuits Fauves explained.

The official opening of the club had to be postponed because of the floods, and the first dates (Public Enemy, Kavinsky, Gilles Peterson, Omar Souleyman and Luciano) have been moved. But other prestigious line ups are on their way: the club will be open for four months, from 24 June to the end of October, over four or five nights per week (from Tuesday to Saturday, 11pm-6am). Entry rates will vary between 10 and 20 euros according to the night.

As for the line ups themselves, Nuits Fauves has enlisted the help of big promoters on the Parisian scene: “The programming will be open to all forms of electronic music and hip hop, bringing headliners and new talent together. It will be overseen by La Rafinerie. We will be hosting weekly residences from Yard (Tuesday), Haïku (Wednesday) and Jeudi Techno (by the Possession team). The weekend will be eclectic with performances from artists like Etienne de Crecy, Gilles Peterson and even DJ Sneak.”

For this opening weekend, we’ll find Etienne de Crécy and Simian Mobile Disco on 24 June, and a Flash Cocotte night of epic proportions to follow.
